What does a Women’s health assessment involve?

A Women’s Health Initial Consultation is 60 minutes. We first start with a thorough history, which focuses on your concerns and your goals. A series of detailed questions are asked about your bladder function, bowel function, sexual function, general health and obstetrics history.

If you are comfortable with it, our Women’s health physio may perform an internal vaginal examination or rectal examination to assess your pelvic floor’s muscular tone, muscle contraction (power & strength) or the presence of prolapse or other physical conditions. You may be asked to contract (squeeze) and relax your muscles several times. The assessment is usually performed while you are lying down.

Other tools commonly used are bladder or bowel diaries or the real time ultrasound.

Please note we take your confidentiality and privacy seriously. All our Women’s health consultations are assessed in a private room for your comfort.
